How to Bridge the Political Divide Through Faith

Kat Griffith tells us about some of her most personal experiences creating connections with others across political divides.

“There have been a number of moments where I have felt led to open myself up,” she says, “and I have been changed—and I have sometimes fought that. Sometimes I’ve been dragged kicking and screaming into that kind of openness, but I’m taken there over and over again, so I think that’s where God wants me.”

It’s easy to say there is that of God in everyone, Kat suggests, “but how often do we really believe it?” When she opens herself to really listen to other people, her understanding of this simple Quaker truth deepens.

  1. Kat Griffith is a consistently inspiring presence in our community of Friends, and I imagine that she is also in the wider community where she lives and serves as a public servant. Once again, listening to this video, I am challenged and inspired to be a more courageous person.

  2. Beautiful, Kat! As a fellow Friend in Winnebago Worship Group, I’m grateful to know your faithful struggle, and to witness your compassionate service in the world. Your willingness to be guided by the Light inspires me, and your courage strengthens my own.
