Looking for a Quaker Meeting Near You? Try This!

“One of the main reasons meeting for worship is so important in Quaker community,” says Ron Hogan, “is that coming together as a community of like-minded seekers allows us to share our leadings with other people… but it also is an opportunity for Spirit to speak to us through somebody else.”

Ron—the online audience development specialist at Friends Publishing—explains how seekers can find their first Quaker meeting with the help of a searchable directory at the Friends Journal website. Just as importantly, however, he discusses how people from marginalized communities can reassure themselves that they’ll be walking into a truly inclusive environment.

“It’s hard to love your neighbor as yourself if you’re not actually out among your neighbors,” Ron observes. “You need to get out there and connect with people who are on the same path—prepared to love you as you are prepared to love them.” And that, he tells us, is what meeting for worship can be at its best.
